Hi-Fi Rush is back: PUBG owner Krafton acquired Tango Gameworks.

Three months after Microsoft announced the closure of its Hi-Fi Rush studio, Tango Gameworks found a new home at PUBG publisher Krafton. In a press release released today, the South Korean publisher described the move as "its first significant investment in Japan market".

Krafton said that the move will not affect the availability of Tango Gamesworks back catalogue. This includes The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo and other titles. It also says that it will work with Xbox and ZeniMax to "ensure a smooth transition, maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks and allow the talented team the opportunity to continue developing the Hi-Fi Rush IP as well as explore future projects".

If I read between the lines, it seems that Krafton has either no interest in continuing to make The Evil Within or Ghostwire games, OR, it hasn't bought those IPs. I've contacted Krafton to get clarification. I will update this post if I receive a response. Hi-Fi Rush will not die, it seems.

Tango Gameworks, founded in 2010, was founded by horror veteran Shinji Mihama. He left the studio before its closure announcement last year. Hi-Fi Rush, despite being a departure from the horror roots of the studio, was its most successful title.

Microsoft announced the closure in May of Tango Gameworks along with other ZeniMax Studios including Arcane Austin Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios. Xbox Game Studios' Matt Booty said, "These changes were based on prioritising high impact titles and further investment in Bethesda’s portfolio of blockbuster and beloved games that you have nurtured for many decades."

Krafton, in addition to PUBG Studios and Striking Distance, also owns The Callisto protocol studio Unknown Worlds and Subnautica studio Striking Distance.
