Next season, Diablo 4’s once extremely rare 'uber uniques' will be easier to obtain. But there is a catch

Diablo 4 launched with a series of powerful 'uber-unique' items that were so rare that Blizzard was forced to confirm that they existed. Only a few people in the entire world had ever seen one, so they were effectively non-existent for most players.

It's still a challenge to find them, even though Blizzard is steadily improving the 'uber' rares, which are now known as mythic rares in-game. To increase your odds, you must gather materials to defeat the endgame bosses and summon them repeatedly. You will also need to pray that the RNG is on your side. With Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred expansion, mythic uniques are now significantly easier to obtain, but with one small catch.

Starting next week, players who spend enough time to complete the faction reputation boards each season - which usually takes no more than a few weeks - and kill an endgame boss just once will be able craft a random unique mythic. Blizzard has decided to compromise by introducing a random cache, which only costs two resplendent sparkles. The only catch is that the caches are random and you may not receive exactly what you want.

Mythic uniques do not have to be used to enjoy the game. However, they are a lot of enjoyable to use. Even the strangest ones can be very powerful, such as the Spear of Ahavarion which grants you a random buff when you kill powerful enemies. It also turns you into a destructive orb of sacred energy or temporarily immortalizes you. Tyrael’s Might is a chestpiece which turns your character into an erupting brick wall emitting holy bolts each second. Since you could go an entire season without seeing one, this is a pretty generous update for most players.

Vessel of Hatred has a few ways that you can find mythics.

  • Being extremely lucky with a drop of any monster
  • Defeating bosses tormented with a higher chance of dropping
  • Collecting 2 resplendent sparkles to purchase a random mythic cache
  • Use a unique tribute to increase your chances in the new Undercity Timed Dungeon (requires vessel of hatred)
  • Find enough duplicate runes and one resplendent Spark to create the vessel of your choice.

Blizzard's decision to remove the restrictions on mythic exclusives is yet another example of how it has reduced the grind and opened up the most exciting loot in Diablo 4. The developers said during a stream earlier in the week that unique items would drop three times more than they do currently. I've played this change in my Diablo: Vessel of Hatred Review and found several uniques. You can find some cool legendary items, but how about boots that leave behind a trail of frozen ice?

It's a shame that you need to own Vessel of Hatred in order to create a mythic unique. However, I do think that it's a positive sign that Blizzard wants to make it even easier to find them. I've always hated the idea of having cool things in my game that no one will ever see. I think these updates maintain the spirit of mythic-unique items as a rare hunt item without locking them to the 1% players who can spend a whole month farming for it.
Next week, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred as well as Season 6, Season of Hatred Rising will be released.
