Remedy's multiplayer Control spinoff is even more bizarre than I thought: a co-op FPS in which you shoot goo, garden gnomes and murderous monsters that come from another dimension.

Remedy's multiplayer Control Spinoff, formerly Project Condor, has been officially revealed today as FBC: Firebreak. Game director Mike Kayatta stated that "this is not Control DLC or a Control sequel."

FBC: Firebreak, a three-player FPS, is set in The Oldest House - the strange, ever-shifting headquarters of Federal Bureau of Control. Players will take on the role of "fearless" first responders, dealing with the various issues that arise. However, since you lack the paranormal abilities and skills of FBC chief Jesse Faden you will have to rely more on practical methods: guns, grenades, or blunt instruments.

This doesn't mean you won't be able to find more Control-esque tools. Thomas Puha, Remedy's communications director, told Xbox Wire that the Firebreak crew is allowed to carry "paranatural augments," which are Altered Items engineered as tool attachments. "Like the Garden Gnome in the trailer. These are our 'ultimates,' and they are not to taken lightly. I like to imagine them as a jaguar inside a box. You carry the box and point it at something. Then you open the container and hope that the jaguar does not turn around and eat your friends or you.

FBC: Firebreak, according to Puha, is designed to be an "easy-to-jump-into experience." While "a steady supply" of new content is planned for post-release, the game is not meant to be a "game-as-a service": "This isn’t about logging into every day to get some loot, or to fear missing out on material."

FBC: Firebreak, the first multiplayer game from Remedy, is a departure from the studio's previous works. However, it promises to retain the studio’s renowned narrative flair.

Kayatta said, "For those who are following the singleplayer journey we wanted to ensure that FBC: Firebreak is a legitimate and significant part of this history and lore."

"The narrative style that you've seen before in our previous games was never going to work for this type of game. You can see that FBC: Firebreak is a unique experience when you consider the differences in gameplay.

The FBC: Firebreak video is lighter in tone than Control's, but it doesn't mean that the game will be -light. Kayatta said that FBC: Firebreak was a game where people are trapped in an absurd universe and fighting for their life. "What we might find funny from our couch - like watching a bunch murderous sticky notes develop consciousness after reproducing themselves like bunnies - would be terrifying to the character who is living it.

"When I was looking for the tone, I wanted to make sure that we kept those same, fundamental elements of 'absurdness' and'seriousness', but that we also played with the mix to make it work for Firebreak - for the specific situation in which our characters find themselves, but also for the type of gameplay that we're creating."

FBC: Firebreak will be released in 2025.
