The announcement of a Dead by Daylight/Five Nights at Freddy’s collaboration is something that I am surprised has taken so long to occur.

I have never played either game, but if you asked me to list a few major horror videogames that I would recommend, Dead by Daylight or Five Nights at Freddy's are two of my first choices. The first has become one of the most popular multiplayer games that are asymmetrical, while the second has rewired teenagers' brains and Twitch streams. Even we gave it 80% in Five Nights at Freddy’s.

It's surprising that these two titans haven't crossed paths. It's only now that we know. GamesRadar has reported that a crossover will be released next summer. This is a lot of notice to give for a collaboration. I can't but think something big is in the works.

What is the crossover or if there's a two-way road? Who knows? ScottGames teased the announcement on Twitter before the Dead by Daylight account revealed the official reveal. I'd bet that there will definitely be something happening in the latter game - Freddy Fazbear alongside Freddy Krueger and Pyramid Head sounds equally hilarious and frightening - but whether FNAF is partial to some Dead by Daylight goods remains to be seen.

Despite my lack of experience in both games, this collaboration is still pretty exciting to me. According to the Twitter reactions, people with a lot more skin in the sand than me seem pretty dang happy about it as well. I admit that I've been curious about Dead by Daylight since a while, despite the fact that my DbD-loving friends have actively tried to discourage me from playing it. I regrettably missed the hype surrounding Five Nights at Freddy's when it was first released. I think I was outside the demographic that was causing it to explode, and as someone who only became a Twitch regular in 2020, I completely missed it. This massive collaboration may be what I need to try one or both of the games.
