The Italian mob game, Mafia: The Old Country about the Italian origins and the Italian mafia, will be launched in Czech, Russian German, French, English and not Italian

I personally believe in cultural authenticity as well as not knowing what is going on. It's for this reason that I play games such as Assassin's creed, Metro 2033 and Indika in their native language. Why should I listen when the script is in the native language of the game, rather than British or American accents?

Unfortunately, I won't have this option in Mafia: The Old Country. It is the fourth Mafia game and the second one (or third if you include the Mafia 1 remake). The game was developed by Hangar 13, the dev studio that created Mafia 1. The Old Country's Steam page lists full audio dubbing for English, French, German and Spanish but not Italian. This has left some fans confused. The Old Country, which is about the origins in Sicily of organised crime, has never had the option. That's right, folks:

If you want Italian you can only choose the interface and subtitles, not the audio. I could make fun of the decision, but it's a little disappointing. I'm sure there's some graph in 2K's or Hangar 13’s office showing that an Italian dub isn't worth it, but I have always enjoyed playing games in the 'proper languages'. I'm not alone. "The disrespect is crazy," writes Twitter user SagamiSword_. "How can you make a Mafia game, set in Italy, and not dub the Italian language despite previous Mafia titles being dubbed?"

It's easy to find other fans that share your disappointment. "Why no Italian dub?" RealNova00 tweets: "In a game that is set in [Italy], why no Italian dub?"

Another user, using the name th3l4stproph3t, wrote: "I'm Italian, and this is pretty insulting, we invented the Mafia, and we have the world's best dub actors, I don't like to hear Americans try to replicate the Italian accent." "That's sad. It may be stupid, but I've always liked to consume media in the 'original' languages," writes a Reddit user. Others in the same thread are hoping that an Italian dub is forthcoming after the release of the game.

I hope so, too. But I'll be disappointed if I don't get to play the game in its original Italiano. I have a huge soft-spot for Mafia 3, a wonky, quirky game that I absolutely loved. I'm looking to this one anyway. I wish I could play it with some spezzatura.

I've contacted 2K to find out why it didn't include the language of love. I'll update this article if I get a response.
