The team behind Minecraft console edition has now created their own blocky building game

4J Studios revealed Reforj, its upcoming open-world, multiplayer survival sandbox on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. 4J Studios worked on the Minecraft Console Edition to bring the iconic builder out to millions of people.

Reforj's first look is a short pre-alpha gameplay video (read: very early in development). It shows how players will glide through the land, using a wingsuit, to jump from higher places and drift to low ones--or to take a cheeky hop down an inclining cavern. 4J says that Reforj will take place in "procedurally-generated voxel worlds filled with exotic creatures and strange new elements."

The trailer also shows how players can sculpt voxel block to cut them into different shapes such as curved surfaces using the built-in tool. This gives you a little more creative freedom than a standard survival-craft game that involves placing blocks (read: Minecraft).

"Survive a world that is constantly changing, where danger lurks at every turn. In a press release, 4J said: "Delve into caves to find more resources. But be careful. The deeper you go, the more surprises you may encounter."

Reforj is powered by 4J’s proprietary Elements Engine. They revealed it a few months ago on their YouTube channel. They crux of Elements Engine is that it claims to harness "the incredible power of the newest generation of consoles and graphics cards" for greater speed and capabilities--including in physics, apparently--of the hardware. The engine's preview video shows dynamically scattered birdflight, high speed world rendering for high speed travel, and dozens blocks breaking into falling pieces.

4J Studios describes themselves as "the team who brought Minecraft to consoles, and created some its most memorable content packs and minigames."

Reforj is available on Steam as well as on the official website.
