In my restless dream, I see the backlog asking me: "Why are playing Silent Hill 2 Remake? I have to finish all those endings, before Alan Wake 2's Lake House expansion. I don't have enough hard drive space. "Ah," says my backlog (I'd like you to imagine a Megazord scenario), "Just grab the Crucial portable SSD --Amazon has a great deal on the 2TB model." Then I wake up.
Amazon is selling the Crucial X9 portable SSD at its lowest price in April, just $120. Not only is that a 20% discount off the MSRP but it's also a better deal than the Samsung T7 Shield, which costs $60 more.
If you want to play your backlog of games, $120 is a decent price for 2 TB. If you just want to store your backburner games, $120 is a reasonable price for 2 TB. You shouldn't expect to be able to move those large game files quickly with the Crucial.
This is not a slow drive. The Crucial X9 was able to maintain its rated peak speed of 950+MB/s in our tests for more than eight minutes. Other drives can easily surpass that speed, but only for shorter bursts.
Say you transfer 950 MB/s for five minutes. After five minutes you've moved 285 GB, which is fast enough to tuck or bring all your indie darlings over. It's a decent speed for most uses.
Its speed is hampered in part by the older USB 3.0 Gen 2x1 but it's also compatible with more devices and PCs. This is a great option for storing games on the move, especially with its attractive form factor. Are you planning a trip to visit family or friends? Share the terror with your friends!
The X9 costs only a few dollars more than the X6, its older, slower sibling. The Crucial X6 is still our top budget pick for storage of games, but the X9 offers a faster speed for only $3 more. The spookiest tale this Halloween will be the story of a sibling rivalry.
