Total War: Warhammer 3 will have a proper turtle function in the next update. The other reworks look decent too

Creative Assembly's 17 minute chat about "What's Next?" Total War: Warhammer 3's June update explained that updates would be more substantial between DLCs for its blend grubby fantasy with grand strategy. We are now seeing that in a devblog for the 5.2 Update. Dwarfs will get a new feature. Chaos Cults will be reworked. Cathay's Ivory Roads will be updated. And a "mini-feature" called Unusual Locations, which sounds pretty cool, is being added.

The blog post states that yes, the Dwarfs have just received an update. However, Creative Assembly has received feedback that it encourages a more expansionist style of play. I remember my first Dwarf Campaign culminating in an epic siege where I was the defender. The new feature seems to make turtling more viable for Dwarfs that want to pretend to swim around and live in a rock. It's called The Deeps.

The Deeps allow Dwarfs the ability to expand their settlements both up and down by building a Great Gate which gives access to the Deep Roads. I mean, the Deeps. Expanding into the Deeps will bring you all kinds of bonuses, such as Guild Foundries that boost your income rate and research rate and Seal the Hold! This strategy allows you to ignore siege attrition, and gives you bonus defensive supplies and ammo in siege defenses. Both of these are balanced out by reducing your effectiveness based on the number of settlements you own. It will finally pay off that my Dwarf nation has shrunk down to four holds. Time to delve greedily.

Unusual Locations is the mini-feature that everyone will get in the 5.2 update. These can be interesting landmarks or organizations that appear in your settlements and offer a Warhammer like trade-off. The first example is a Grail knight grave, which increases control and reduces corrupting as well as providing garrisons and giving characters a chance to earn traits if control is above 75. Nice for Bretonnians. The second is the Grand Illuminator’s Residence which provides a home to the Cult of Illumination within the Empire. This can increase the fealty and prestige of your Electors, but it will also bump up the corruption of Chaos Undivided in the area.

These additions enrich your campaign and make it more tempting to revisit factions that you may have ignored or stopped playing. After being inspired by the newly released Dwarfen Mountain Holds Army for Warhammer Old World, I was interested in giving Dwarfs a second chance. This is exactly what I needed to push them to the top of my list for my next project.
