Ubisoft's NFT dumpster-fire flares up when a matchmaking error leaves all players losing to the same confused and unkillable guy

Ubisoft surprised us all last week by launching Champions Tactics Grimoria Chronicles in the year 2024. The characters can cost up to $63,000 in cryptocurrency. I'm still not sure what you can use them for once you have them. They're mostly good for playing Champions Tactics, unless you want to play on the weekend when everyone is losing to the same person.

On Friday afternoon, Champions Tactics Discord users began reporting that ranked matches were no longer playable. The players would connect to the game only to get an error message from the server. The message said that "stats and rating have not been affected," but players' competitive rankings were plummeting as they repeatedly joined games they would immediately lose.

All of these players realized that they had been matched with the same player in their busted games: "Paulstar111." By Friday night, Discord users demanded that the Champions Tactics developers ban Paulstar111. He had somehow managed to hack into the game's matching system and feed himself with wins.

Unluckily, one of Discord's mods came with bad news. The devs couldn't access their office during the weekend. "Hey fam. Unchartedblock, the moderator, said: "We all share the frustrations. It's a well-known issue that so many of us already reported." "Unfortunately, team will fix the issues on Monday."

Ketaros, a Discord user, responded: "If this guy stays connected all weekend doing this he will doom this game." "GL for you guys."

A pleasant surprise awaited Saturday morning. Biloukat, the game director, announced that the developers had been able administer justice to Paulstar111. Biloukat stated, "We observed a strange behavior for this player Paulstar111." "We decided to banning him and we will deeply investigate his behavior on Monday!"

Unfortunately, after Paulstar111's defeat, his villainy reappeared under a new name. After Biloukat announced the match, players all experienced the same instant loss as they found themselves matched with the latest unkillable god: a user called "Schilleri11". Spirits were low, as if pouring fake money into a bunch fake tactics figurines wasn't the smart investment it had seemed.

The strangest twist yet was revealed on Monday. Biloukat returned to the scene this morning, announcing that matchmaking should, at least for now, be functional. Players can now battle their crypto-forged tchotchkes. The story ended in a bizarre way: Paulstar111, Schilleri11, and others may have become unconquerable villains, but neither of them knew what was going on. A networking error, which was not their fault, earned them the hatred and enmity of - well, however many people play Champions Tactics. At least a dozen.

Biloukat said: "We apologize to Schilleri11, Paulstar111 and all other players who were banned due to the matchmaking bug. "We have lifted their bans, and ask everyone to be patient with them."

If you thought this was a sign that you should rush into Champions Tactics, it's not the case. It sounds like there are still some issues at Ubisoft Web3 HQ. Biloukat, in this morning's announcement regarding restored matchmaking asked players to keep in mind the possibility that the bug could reoccur while the devs work on a permanent solution.

The Champions Tactics market seems to be unfazed. As I write, the most expensive champion listed is $256,570,000. I can only imagine the number of buyers who are interested in it after the first week.
