Valve has just announced the Steam Deck: Limited Edition White. This is a'second experimental' colorway for the classic Deck, and it looks eye-searingly cool.

Valve has the Steam Deck just for you if you are the type of gamer who demands that all your hardware matches the "clean and serene aesthetic" you have. Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White is available in limited quantities starting November 18, this year. It's also quite shiny.

Not just the casing has been repainted. The new model comes with a white carrying case that will pick up every little bit of fluff in your bag and show it off. It also includes a white microfibre cloth for cleaning. Cleaning cloths aren't typically white, but they'll look lovely when you remove them from their packaging for the very first time.

This is the same 1 TB version as the standard Steam Deck, so don't expect any performance boosts or additional features. We've been impressed with all the versions of the Steam Deck that we've seen so far. Valve has stated that it will be a while before we see the Steam Deck 2.

The new model is available for $679 (a $20 increase over the standard 1TB OLED Deck). It will ship to "everywhere Steam Deck currently ships globally", including Australia, which was added to the Steam Deck family just recently. It's a limited-edition, as the name implies. Valve says when stocks are gone, they're gone for good.

If it does well, it is not difficult to imagine that the Limited Edition White will be re-released or that more colorways will be added to the collection.

Valve said: "We are curious to see the response and will use the information we gather to inform future decisions regarding any potential new color variations down the road."

I think it would look great in deep red. However, I love my black Deck even though it is not the fancy OLED version.

Valve hasn't been afraid to experiment with Steam Deck aesthetics before. Last year, it released a limited-edition translucent edition that got Ted excited (and worried about his bank account).

Valve has kept the Steam Deck alive with regular SteamOS upgrades, including battery life improvements, and the occasional performance bump. It looks like the OG Steam Deck, and Steam Deck OLED, have plenty of life to them yet.

Valve, in its usual way of teasing, reiterated its commitment to the development of Steam Deck from a software perspective as well as a future hardware perspective.

Kaci Aitchison-Boyle, Valve's Kaci Boyle, says that they've been "super happy" with the reception to Steam Deck ever since the LCD version was launched in March 2022. "We've always stated our intention to continuously work on improving Steam Deck. This is true both from a software perspective (continuing with ship improvements) and hardware one (Steam Deck's OLED, along with ongoing work towards the future of Steam Deck and any other hardware plans).

Steam Deck is the only company to offer this shiny white model. While the handheld market may be about to get some interesting new additions, the Steam Deck remains the archetype. If you choose the new white edition, you'll be sure to stand out in your next flight.
