You can play Diablo the original and best version in your browser again

Browser Diablo is a thing that has been around for a long time. We wrote about an earlier version of the game in 2019. This version is no longer available, but a new one has taken control of my browser. It's like someone jammed soulstones into its forehead. Diablo's original source code has been ported from WebAssembly to WebAssembly by GalaXyHaXz, the devilution Team, and is now available via Github.

My colleagues at PC Gamer are divided between Diablo 4 haters and Diablo 2 fans, but I can tell you that they're both mistaken. Diablo 4's post-launch updates may have made it a better game, but the atmosphere and simplicity of the original Diablo are still unmatched.

You only need one dungeon, and one town. No open-world filler. The ultimate Diablo experience is hearing a goatish squeal in the darkness beyond your range of light, while you are alone and there are too many layers beneath Tristram.

You'll need to first upload the DIABDAT.MPQ in order to play Diablo on your browser. If you already own Diablo (perhaps via GOG), you'll already have this file. But if not, there's already a shareware MPQ that you can play. You will be limited to the warrior and won't be able to speak to NPCs. However, if you want to test it out and see if it works, you can launch Diablo and experience the classic flavor.

You can play it on your mobile phone using touch controls. You all have phones, don't you? Here's the link to the website.
