Last week, I wrote about an issue in Stalker 2 that was similar to one I encountered in Stalker 2: Call of Pripyat back in 2010. I didn't mind it. It gave me that warm fuzzy feeling of "some things never changes" you get when you see an old car with a radio that increases volume when the headlights are turned on. Weird but harmless.
In the same article, I also wrote how a seemingly harmless bug can quickly turn into a frustrating one, such as another bug I encountered. An artifact that I was on a quest to collect never appeared, forcing me to load a previous save, which cost me over an hour of progress. There's nothing warm and fuzzy about it.
This weekend, I encountered a similar issue in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 career mode. The first few minutes were fine, with only a few amusing hiccups. For example, the AI voice of the instructor would mispronounce the word "fuselage" or an NPC would walk directly through the tailrotor of a chopper.
After getting certified to fly a Cessna for a job, I tried the same thing with the helicopter. The wheels fell off. There are no wheels on the helicopter. The skids must have come off. I flew the entire course and landed exactly where it was indicated while taking the license test. My instructor robotically told me I did a good job after checking off the final step of my mission. Then... nothing happened. The mission did not end. I took off again and landed, I tried other spots, but I never got credit for passing the exam. I finally quit and tried again. I took the exam twice more with the same result. Another hour wasted because of a bug.
The subreddit as well as Discord are full with bugs in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The image at top of this post is from Reddit's LordCrumpets who said "Mr. Smith ensured he got his money's value on today's Flightseeing tour." He sure did. I hope his scalp wasn't scraped during the landing.
Here's Reddit member ArCeyDu3 having a little trouble with the private pilot exam:
This bug is preventing me from taking my Private pilot's license exam. Microsoft Flight Simulator - r/MicrosoftFlightSim
Reddit user, nihileternumest, has a mission that is quite interesting: make a flight charter from Jacksonville, Florida, to Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, Spain, a journey of approximately 4,300 miles. This is going to be a bit tricky, as the plane used for this mission has a range only of 800 miles. The impossible 32-hour flight is only rated as 3 stars of difficulty.
There are many more reported bugs. From helicopters teleporting, landing upside-down and planes crashing even before the pilot gets into them, there are many. These bugs can be funny, but they can also be frustrating. I'm personally inclined to wait a few weeks for both games do some bug-fixing, before I lose more progress.
