The State of Decay 2, devs, prepare the final update after six years. Attention now turns to State of Decay 3.

Undead Labs - the developers of State of Decay 2 - have announced that this update will be the final one for the zombie survival video game, as they are now focusing on State of Decay 3

Undead Lab writes in a blog that they have had the honor and privilege of supporting State of Decay 2 for nearly forty updates and additions. "We've put our hearts into creating the best possible experience, thanks to your faith in us. We've added new modes, maps and difficulties, characters, weapons, cosmetics and bounties, vehicles, event, traits, and much more. Each update addressed your Wishlist, fixed bugs, or improved the quality of life. "We love making the games you love to play."

The final content update will be released for State of Decay 2 later this year. It will fix some long-standing problems, add quality of life changes, and permanently unlock seasonal content and gated content, like the Wizard Van and winter outfits. This should hopefully leave State of Decay 2 at a place where players can revisit it without too many hassles, at least until State of Decay 3 is released.

Undead Labs has clarified that State of Decay 2 is not being sunsetted. "We are ceasing content development and developer assistance for the title," reads the blog post. The game will be available on all platforms, for all owners, and with GamePass subscriptions.

The blog continues, "We know that you love the world we've built and the amazing community that you've helped to build." You may have heard we are working on the next evolution of State of Decay 2! We want to make State of Decay 3 the best zombie survival game in the franchise. To do this, we will be focusing our resources and refocusing on the third installment.

State of Decay 3 is a game that has been in the works for a long time. The first announcement was made in July 2020, with a frosty trailer. We got a new look at the game this year during Summer Games Fest. The newest trailer included more than the original teaser but did not reveal when the game will be released.
