Game Informer staff tweeted a final goodbye after their work was deleted. Then GameStop nuked the account from space.

Game Informer, a long-running gaming magazine published by GameStop, was abruptly discontinued last week. The staff was shocked by the news on Friday when they arrived at work. All 13 employees had been laid off immediately, and the magazine issue that was almost finished would not be completed.

GameStop announced its shutdown on the official Game Informer X Twitter account, with a thank-you note to readers for their participation in the "epic journey." The Game Informer staff claimed they had nothing to with the short, snide statement that resembled ChatGPT output. They were shocked to discover that the entire Game Informer site had disappeared. Years of articles had been replaced by the same GameStop message.

The Game Informer X Twitter account was active again this morning. This time, an ex-Game Informer employee took over the reins for one last time in order to say goodbye.

"Our 33-year history deserves a real goodbye, written by an ex-Game Informer member. We are heartbroken at the closure of our publication but we also leave with pride, knowing that we gave it everything we had. "In the words of our Editor-in-Chief: 'Be Well, Play Well.'"

The post included images of the Game Informer masthead, as it appeared at the time of the magazine's closing. A staff of just 13 was responsible for what was once the most popular publication in the US.

Eric Van Allen of Destructoid noticed that the entire Game Informer X website and account disappeared shortly after the post was published. Both the Game Informer X website and account are no longer available. GameStop doesn't seem to have appreciated Game Informer's desire to leave on its own terms.

While GameStop continues to erase Game Informer from the internet, former GI employees at the independent publication MinnMax plan a celebration of its legacy with a number of videos and podcasts.
