Henry Cavill is taking a break from PC gaming, Warhammer and Voltron to film a Voltron film this fall

Henry Cavill is a PC gamer, Warhammer fan, and actor who has also appeared in other movies. He is the star of a live-action Voltron film. The former Geralt actor will be working with director Rawson Marsh Thurber (Red Notice Skyscraper We're The Millers), to bring this '80s animated series (based on the Japanese Beast King GoLion series) to a television near you.

The Hollywood Reporter had the scoop on Cavill, as well as the announcement of Daniel Quinn-Toye. Quinn-Toye is a relatively unknown talent, who has worked with Spider-Man Tom Holland in theatre productions.

We don't really know what Thurber's vision is for a live-action Voltron movie. But if I were to guess based on his previous work, then I would expect a lot of quips, matched only by the number of buildings that fall around the main stars. Thurber has directed action films for Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds over the past eight years. This is Cavill’s first time working together. Thurber's usual leading men are not like Cavill, with his buttoned-up demeanor or grumpy expression. The Amazon pairing makes sense, given Cavill’s existing partnership with Amazon to get a Warhammer 40k cinematic universe up at some point.

Hollywood has been reviving lesser known nerds with big television budgets. However, recent live-action adaptations of anime have been inconsistent. The Netflix Cowboy Bebop series was a travesty. But the One Piece series was better. Netflix was the home of Voltron: Legendary Defender. This animated show ran for three seasons from 2016 to 2018. This show was really good. I have less confidence in this film.

The Voltron film, which does not yet have a release date, will be filmed in Australia this fall.
