I can't believe that Infinity Nikki will be a dress-up game in an open world.
I've heard about riding outfits, hunting costumes, and other purpose-specific clothing of the past. Infinity Nikki is a dress-up game with an open world where you can unlock floating outfits, gliding costumes (apparently they are not the same), shrinking outfits, fishing outfit s,, and more. Nikki appeared at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a brand new trailer today and has also opened registration for the closed beta.
Infinity Nikki, formerly a mobile only series, is now coming to PC and consoles. We learned this during Sony's State of Play event earlier this summer. Today's trailer was more abstract that the reveal trailer. It was basically a fever-dream of cats, sheep, and chickens all singing "Nikki," as stylist Nikki, her cat Momo, and their dog companion, Moo, explore Miraland. Infold Games provided a more understandable explanation in text:
Infold Games states, "Sink into a world of endless possibilities including cozy open-world exploring, fun platforming and puzzle-solving. Gorgeous style options are also available." Former The Legend of Zelda Director Kentaro Tominaga has brought this immersive world to life. Nikki’s adventurous spirit will help you solve intricately designed puzzles, and fight dark energy. Create outfits for fishing in the river, catching bugs in the field, and traveling between lands.
Fashion games have never been my thing. I prefer games that allow me to build and decorate without any goals (Townscaper or Tiny Glade). I don't like games with an open-ended dressing-up. If you add a beautiful open world with a bit of exploration and traversal puzzle-solving, I'm in. Infinity Nikki is a game that has my full attention.
Mollie Taylor once tried to explain Love Nikki, which was apparently darker than I expected this adorable fashion game to be. I'm curious to find out if Infinity Nikki has a similar story hidden beneath its bright surface.
The monetization of Nikki's premium currencies was something I hadn't quite understood from the reveal so far, but I'm sure it won't be a surprise for those familiar with mobile games. On its official website, you can see the pre-registration prizes including multiple currencies. This reminds me of what I am now used to seeing on games like Genshin Impact and others gacha. Know that ahead of time.
Although we haven't received a release date, Infinity Nikki has just opened registration for its closed Beta test (dates will be announced) which will include PC gamers. You can also get it from the Epic Games Store.
