Marvel Rivals announces December release date for Captain America and Winter Soldier.

Marvel Rivals, the team-based superhero shooter, released a new trailer tonight at Gamescom's Opening Night Live. The trailer revealed two new playable characters and, most importantly, a December 6 release date.

Captain America, whose inclusion I was surprised to see delayed, and his perennial foe, the Winter Soldier, will be playable from launch. The characters have not been revealed, but we will no doubt hear more about them soon.

The release date is, of course, the biggest deal. Marvel Rivals' closed beta test, which took place earlier this year, didn't exactly blow us away. Online editor Fraser Brown described it as "aggressively poor," while news writer Elie G. Gould was more charitable and called it "pretty acceptable" but noted that the game is still in its early stages.

Marvel Rivals has a huge advantage over its obvious rival Overwatch 2: Rivals is free to play and all heroes are unlocked from launch.

NetEase has also confirmed that Marvel Rivals Beta Tests will be released in the future, before the full release. You can sign up for the beta test at marvelrivals.com.
