Post Malone has played nearly 400 hours of Hunt: Showdown. This proves that the singer has a great taste in FPS games.

Post Malone, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, has been praising the multiplayer FPS Hunt: Showdown 1896 for years.

"You've done a fantastic job," Malone said during a Q&A moderated by Hunt creative director Scott Lussier. "It's a great game." It's the best.

Crytek sat with the performer and talked about his love of Hunt. They teased a collaboration with the artist, which includes a short tale called "The Ballad of Post Malone". Malone tells how a friend introduced him to the game in the past year. With every answer, it was clear that he is a serious hunter.

Malone said, "I miss playing when I'm away from home." "I've put about 400 hours into it."

Holy cow. I have only a few hundred hours left on Malone, and I've been playing Hunt off and on since years. He said that his ranking fluctuates between four and five star, but he has never been a 6-star. This is a good example of how Hunt's unique rating system works.

"I love that it's grounded in reality. Very quick time-to-kill. "You can kill someone with one shot," said he. "The guns are so sick. The skins look so sick. "I was like, "Alright, let's give it a try."

Malone shared some more revealing Hunt opinions, which suggest that we would be compatible squadmates. He admits that he likes the Dolch, but it "doesn’t make me feel as awesome as I do with my revolver." When money is no object, he gravitates towards long ammo weapons like the Krag and prefers FMJ ammunition: "I'm an avid wallbanger." He would also like to see leaning arrive in Hunt one day, and he's a big fan of FMJ ammo: "I'm a wallbanger."

"I think it would be a really cool dynamic--you could play pranks on people!"

What is the opinion that I most respect? The Assassin is a sucka. Malone said, "Give him a lower health." "Assassin is the worst." No lies detected.

The most telling window to Malone's style of play came when he shared his ideal loadout from memory and his go-to characteristics.

"I'll go for a Krag if I'm feeling sweaty. I'll take a spear, flare gun concertina bomb health kit, regen, stamina, concertina traps and ammo," the star blasted off with the automatic precision a Hunt player has used to repurchase his loadout after squad wipes hundreds of times. He continued with traits.

  • Necromancer
  • Resilience
  • Magpie
  • Assailant
  • Silent Killer
  • Conduit
  • Serpent
  • Doctor
  • Physician

A well-rounded, meta-friendly trait set for a hunter of level 40-50. I asked PC Gamer's most-active Hunt player, Strategic Director Evan Lahti (who recently achieved six-star status), to review Malone’s loadout. He thinks it’s decent.

"6/10. I like the tools, and that's about what I'd choose, but I'd prefer a few different rifles over the Krag, and the Uppercut, as a sidearm, doesn't offer the greatest contrast, limiting Malones versatility, particularly for indoor fights. He also loses points for not specifying the special ammo types that he is using. If he's carrying an ammo case, I'm assuming that he uses FMJ."

Pretty much agreed. You'll never see me using an Uppercut and a long-range rifle at the same time, because I'm terrible in close-range combat. However, as Evan alluded to, there's a good chance Malone uses the Uppercut as a reservoir of FMJ ammunition. The man loves his Krag.
You may remember that Malone was a fan of another FPS at this time last year: Apex Legends. He reached top rank, and Respawn created an entire in-game event centered around his partnership. But I wonder how many times Malone has logged on since discovering Hunt last year. My guess is that he hasn't played much since he discovered Hunt this year. He wouldn't have been the first to find it difficult to return to battle royale after being snared by Hunt.
